My wife, as a full-time driver, gets treated like shit and verbally abused every single night by entitled fucks who think they're better, or better off, than her. Guess what? I still get treated like shit and looked down upon the instant the word "taxi" comes up in conversation and it comes out that that's what we do. I have a college education in business and audio engineering, am well-spoken and quite literate, and I've even been involved in local politics from time to time. My wife and I have owned our own small, local taxi business for close to ten years we've been fairly successful even after Uber's arrival, and we're generally okay (things are tough sometimes, but we're definitely well above the poverty line). I am a 32 year old, white cis male with a wife, kids, house, truck/car, and two bands. No matter your situation, no matter your intelligence or education, no matter your social standing/class, race, or anything else, a lot of people will treat you like shit or at least carry some sort of air of condescension. You're serving people.and at the end of the day, a very large number of people out there take that very literally. It's PHV drivers in general (including regular taxis and delivery drivers), fast food workers, bellhops and valets, I mean anything in the service industry.
